During our regular neighborhood walks, we have seen so many mattresses tossed to the curb over the last week. It must have something to do with the school year starting up -- an out with the old, in with the new mentality.
And, unfortunately, they're all headed to the landfill.
That's why Architecture for Humanity (who you may remember from a post last week) and Rubicon National Social Innovations have teamed up to create a very useful design competition.
The Discarded Dreams Competition is all about reusing mattresses.
The winners of the competition will successfully invent a way to create something useful from a discarded mattress, give instructions on how to make the product, and explain how it will be produced on a larger scale.
The deadline is December 5, 2008. Get all the info here.
