When we finish picking up and lightly cleaning our kitchen, there’s always that one last thing we do that puts the finishing touch on this space for us. We always take out a colorful dish towel and drape it over our oven door handle. That simple gesture with a décor element always “finishes” the kitchen in our mind.
Though we don’t have a large collection of them, we certainly consider dish towels and tea towels to be a part of the décor of our kitchen. We even consider aprons, which we hang on a hook, to be a part of bringing the color in. While it might seem like a trivial element, we happen to think dish towels, tea towels and aprons create quite a big impact on the look of the space. Do you?
Do you consider dish towels or aprons and other small elements as part of your kitchen décor? If so, do you hang them from hooks? Or drape them over handles? What gives your kitchen that finishing touch?

Haha, I totally do this. I bought a couple sets of stripey dish towels in colours I LOVE, and there's always one draped over my oven handle.
I do :) I have several from Anthropologie that I love to display. My friend and I also "fancied up" some plain dish towels this past Christmas as gifts to friends and family.
love!
I totally do the same thing! :)

I also have some fun brown & white mushroom ones I love :P
I have so many dishtowels, it's ridiculous. I keep them rolled up in a basket from Crate and Barrel on our bar. I absolutely love to place a different one on the stovebar after cleaning up!
I do this too! I have a lovely tea-towel with orange tulips draped over the handle of my black oven. It's pretty, and purely for decor! :)
I do this, but it's so the dish towel can dry out - not for decoration.
Mine is also there to dry out. I did buy nice looking towels knowing they would be see all the time though.
Nice yellow and white striped ones, 100% cotton. They work wonderfully. http://tinyurl.com/yf6tf54
Yeah, I can't stand it when the wrong color dishtowels make their way into my kitchen. I keep them in the drawers and use them only to cook, tucked into my apron. Then they go right into the wash. Only the best ones get hung up.
Personally I love the look of plain white utilitarian dish towels, unfortunately there's the drawback of how quickly they get soiled looking.
Yes, but mostly because it's convenient for drying your hands. When I'm in someone's kitchen and there is no towel, I wonder how often they wash their hands (especially if they are preparing my food). Plus, it's an easy way to add color and/or holiday decor.
I don't think they're all that decorative when they're drying, so I hang mine from a hook inside the under sink cabinet. I think they look odd on the stove.
I hang mine on my stove but my 10 yr old lab always likes to make off with them. I know someone who keeps probably 10-12 of the same or similar towels on her stove handle. They are crowded on but I think I like that look and it may help them stay on when you have the door completely open. Sadly, I don't have room to store that many.
