Unless you've actually read your dishwasher manual — or you're really good at playing Tetris — your idea of loading the dishwasher might involve stacking dishes wherever they'll fit, just so you don't have to hand wash the ones left over. But there's a method that could help maximize space (not to mention cleaning), as this video from CHOW shows.
Aside from the more obvious tips — like hand washing wooden utensils and your good, sharp knives — Chow recommends staggering small plates and large plates (admittedly a new idea to me, but one that makes sense) and leaving space between your glasses on the upper rack, so that they don't vibrate against each other in the wash.
