Dishwasher-Safe Bamboo Cutting Board

Our kitchen has been "Cured" a couple of times—both with Apartment Therapy and on solo missions. We've pared things down to the true essentials, and that means we have one bamboo cutting board that gets a lot of action. And guess what? We despise hand washing it every night. Enter the dishwasher-safe bamboo cutting board....

We read about this over at Real Simple, while learning about all the things that can (and can't) go in the dishwasher. Wooden and bamboo cutting boards are a no-no, except for the new GreenLite collection from Totally Bamboo: it's got a heat-resistant adhesive.

Too good to be true, we thought, figuring that heat-resistant adhesive would be laced with toxins and formaldehyde, but we were pleasantly surprised when we visited their site:

Designed with earth-friendly living in mind, the GreenLite® series is crafted from mountain grown, naturally occurring bamboo and is free from formaldehyde based adhesives, dyes, or stains.

Totally Bamboo's innovative TriPly construction uses a proprietary food-grade adhesive that withstands high temperature washings without compromising the durability or quality you've come to expect from Totally Bamboo. GreenLite® products are a mere 3/8" thick, ultra lightweight, come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, and best of all, can be sanitized in a dishwasher!

Swoon! Since we'd prefer to use our EnergyStar dishwasher to clean up, this is a huge bonus for us. Hand-washing just a few dishes proves to be inefficient in our house, anyway, wasting more water than it should. Not to mention, getting the cutting board properly sanitized is a plus.

A medium-sized board (13.5" x 9") runs $18. There are three styles available in the GreenLite line, each boasting three or four sizes.
