By now you're getting quite a few cards in the mail. Friends and family spent time and money sending you those cards, so what do you do with them? Do you hang them up, throw them in a bowl, or let your toddler play with them to keep her busy for a few minutes? (guilty). A few ideas below the jump...
This isn't really a new question; it's showed up on our sister sites here and here in past years. But from what we found perusing around the web, there aren't a whole lot of great ideas/solutions.
People claim hanging them on ribbon with small clothespins or binder clips is a new idea- but is it? We found a couple of tutorials for card "trees," which, while interesting, seem like way too much clutter for us.
It seems like finding the best place for these really depends on the nooks and crannies of your individual home.

I've used a large poster board in the past and with double-sided tape, I make a collage on the board with all the cards. Then it hangs on the wall and is a colorful piece of Holiday "artwork."
We do the Real Simple version - hanging the picture cards on ribbons taped vertically on a wall in the kitchen. We used to throw them in a bowl. I like the new way better because the kids can easily see their cousins and friends.
This year we did not decorate our tree because our 19-mo-old would surely have brought destruction upon it. So I've been putting the cards we receive in the branches and I think it's looking pretty nice.
We do the clothespin thing, but I glue the clothespins to a long, fabric-covered board.

we hang them like you've shown in the picture.
This year I am displaying our holiday cards as wreaths.
I bought huge embroidery hoops (each contains two circles for about $6) and hot-glue-gunned the cards to the hoop affixing a large satin bow at the top. I've put them up on our walls using temporary adhesive hooks that leave no mark when you take them down.
This is my favorite holiday card display that I've used. I love it.
This year, it seemed like almost all of the cards we received were photos, not actual cards. I didn't have any clothespins (or time to rig anything), so I started taping them to a couple of kitchen cabinets. My 16-month-old son LOVES looking at all of the pictures---whenever I pick him up, he points to all of his cousins. It's surprisingly not tacky and adds a little decoration to the kitchen.
We pop all of our cards onto the blinds - It displays them nicely, and no extra stuff to find or build each year.
A few years ago, a family member sent me a Christmas floral arrangement that was in a metal sleigh. I kept the sleigh and that's where the cards go, right on the table in our front hall. I really like that kitchen cabinet idea, though!
I do the same thing as Frankies Girl --- just slip the back of the card into the slats of the window blinds. Makes it difficult to raise or lower them, but you can easily twist up and down to let in/keep out light. It makes the windows really festive and fun!
I bought Pottery Barn's Christmas Tree wire holder on an after Christmas clearance sale a few years ago and love it! I leave it up year round by our front door and we hang pretty things on it.
