Displaying old family photos or vintage photography adds an element of character and history to a home. One of my friends loves vintage furnishings and photography so much that he purchases black and white family photos from a local flea market. As I looked at his "family portrait" wall, my curiosity kicked in because I was looking at a collection of strangers' personal histories.

Framing family photos in an older, worn frame is a nice accent. However, I can also appreciate another creative expression for displaying the photos by mounting them to the wall with push pins. One of my favorite options for incorporating the photos into the home is exemplified in the first photo. Although, I am still questioning how to get the photo out of the bottle.
What ways have you incorporated old family photos into your home?

White Enamel Flatwa...
when we got married, the reception took place in a large mansion in the oldest neighborhood in the city. we had the whole 1st floor to decorate, which consisted of 1 large kitchen, and 4 rooms with 4 fireplaces.
due to some of our grandparents passing, we decided to make each room with a fireplace, a room for that particular family.
we found the wedding photos of each set of grandparents, had it matted/framed and placed one on each fireplace.
for the grandparents that were in attendance, there were bouquets of flowers on their mantle to take home. for the grandparents that had passed, we lit a candle for each on their mantle.
now that the wedding is over, we have them in our apartment in the same manor (all on 1 shelf though).
What a great idea! Expanding on this idea I might try to make an art/decor display using printed numbers or letters or art that has something in common. I love the glass and the way it looks! Thank you for sharing this great idea!
yeah, cute!..................for like five minutes.
My husband and I did the display from the bottom photo incorporated into our wedding decor, family wedding photos strewn about with a tea light behind each photo. It was a hit with the guests and something we still hear about.
I love the photos in the mason jars for a wedding reception! What a great idea?!?
This is a lovely idea. Just remember to use a good quality copy of your old photos, not the original.
Because as Marcia noted, the only way to get the picture out of the vintage bottle is the destroy one of them.
Push pins = creative expression. Um, sure.
The bottles are okay, but I'm not super excited by the idea. You can't really see the photos very clearly.
That's a great idea...if you use a copy of the original photo, instead of the original. You'd want to preserve the old photos.
Was everybody in a bad mood when they saw this and commented? This idea was in Yankee magazine, where they gave the tip to copy or scan and print your treasured photos onto regular printing paper. This way, you can roll the paper to get them inside the bottle, and it doesn't matter if they get torn or wrinkled if you choose to remove them to change photos. Is the quality as great as if you'd printed them on high-quality photo paper? No, but you are going for a vintage look anyway! And the reason you can't see the photos very well in the second picture? Glare. I know this original post was ages ago, but I just stumbled on it, and I didn't want someone to not give this a shot just because they didn't have a handy tip. I've done this, and I get loads of compliments - and friends who steal the idea. Go for it.
I love this. Trying to find out who owns the photograph. Any help would be great.
