traditional and white!
modern kitchen reminds me of a morgue...or a surgery room. lol
We built from the ground up, literally, and the kitchen involved the most consideration by far. As I do most of the cooking, and I cook a lot, it was important. It's large, for the size of the house, open and very functional. When planning the layout I actually got to go through and choose where I wanted what, from the appliances, sink and even walls, so I got exactly what I wanted, within reason.
Traditional, light, smaller. Of course, I'm assuming we are talking what works in my house. I'm not so married to one design style as making the design fit the architecture of the house. An uber modern kitchen would look dumb in my antique house. Something super dark and sleek is sexy in a Manhatten high rise.
I'm not sure I could ever do a black kitchen though. I need to be able to SEE what I'm doing. I was never a fan of the cherry/granite look that was so popular a few years back.
Modern, light, small. Agree with mntwmyn on all accounts. I might choose a dark sleek kitchen if I could afford a gut renovation. But since my kitchen space doesn't get much natural light, dark colors might not be the wisest choice. I personalized and upgraded the original all white kitchen with grey quartz counters, stainless steel appliances, Flor carpet tiles and wall art.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the "Light" picture actually a photo of a bathroom? That being said, I still prefer it over the dark kitchen.
Bright. Modern. Small.
That black kitchen is the hottest thing I've ever seen!! If I had the right kind of home, I'd steal that idea in a heartbeat.
I've been preferring mostly light, white kitchens with industrial touches lately.
light, modern, small (although I love a big kitchen, i'd rather have extra space somewhere else)

Nope...all kitchens I promise :)
wait.... oops my bad, yes it is a bathroom?? I'm honestly not sure how that happened. oops!
annieh sure does have sharp eyes!
I like the "light" version, but I know in my house there would be fingerprints on everything. Black/White is an artificial dichotomy, but I'll definitely go with lighter colors.
Light, traditional, and small for me. Cooking in a dark kitchen is depressing. Modern kitchens look cold and uncomfortable. I had a large kitchen (144sqft) in my last apartment and half the cabinets were empty! Too much wasted space there.
yeah I think it IS a bathroom... :S
I'll go with light, traditional and small, although it really depends on the house like mntwmyn said.
That black kitchen is HOT.
That black kitchen is great for a bottle of champagne and seducing your partner. A white kitchen is better for making a tuna sandwich while in between laundry and yardwork. Unfortunately, my life is more of the latter.
Light, but not white. Black shows every speck of dust and soaks up light. Pure white is too clinical. I want a cheery setting that shows off homemade pies to their greatest advantage ... and is also a warm, comfortable place to eat them.
What I have is a white kitchen, but not the white kitchen of anyone's dreams: it's a narrow, dead-end, fluorescent-lit galley painted that shiny white landlords favor to cover up the last 50 years of paint and grime.
Light, traditional/industrial, large. I cook, I love to cook, I love to hang out in the kitchen when people are over, and I need room to do those things. My dream home is a small house with a (comparatively) large kitchen. Galley kitchens were the number one thing that made me look for other rentals in days gone by.
I'd have to say I like more of the light and traditional rooms, although my kitchen is more into the warmer wood tones than lighter tones.
light, modern, large. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and that's where my friends gravitate.
White! I think of a kitchen as an operating room. I want it spotless, and I want to be able to tell.
Darn it, I like them ALL! I currently have a modern/retro white kitchen, I am thinking about painting a couple of the walls or the ceiling black. hmmm
I'd cook in that bathroom. Add a microwave and I'd be set!
Light, traditional, and large!
The last picture of the small kitchen makes me feel claustrophobic just looking at it!
I like light --- either small or large. I can do traditional if it is a "clean" traditional with maybe a few industrial or rustic touches. I could do modern as long as it is not too shiny and slick. I would indeed make the choice based on the apartment or house in question.
I prefer a lighter kitchen, but not white. Too easily dirtied!
I think the most important design element to a kitchen is none of the options mentioned - utilitarian.
Too extreme. I prefer my own kitchen, maple cabinets, darkish slate-look vinyl tile, darkish green granite counters, cafe-ua-lait walls, stainless appliances. In the middle. Black is very sophisticated and urban almost to the point of parody, and all white is usually too country or else too stark for me.
They both look smashing, but in terms of practicality, I love my stainless steel kitchen, even though there are some here that dismiss it as a trend (rolleyes).
i suffer from S.A.D. and I live in Seattle where it's cloudy and rainy almost always. I really believe your surroundings affect your mood, so for me personally, bring on the LIGHT! I love happy positive quotes and art, bright colors, white furniture, linens and tile, and LIGHT!
I prefer the floor in the dark kitchen but ultimately it has to be the light kitchen for me. It helps counteract the foggy days and jack*ss relatives who occasionally aim to depress!
LUV THE BLK ONE...I JUST DID MINE N BLK... BLK GLOSSY CABINETS,BLK GRANITE TOPS,BLK GLASS SUBWAY TILE BACKSPLASH AND DEEP SATURATED VIOLET WALLS...MY INSPIRATION WAS KELLY WEARSTLERS KITCHEN.
Light... modern...small
Light is bright
I'm a modern kinda girl
Less to clean and prevents overconsumption
I love the black kitchen.
I like dark, minimal yet classic, and medium sized kitchens. Need a large island for preparation and the room needs to be cozy, but easy to clean.
My current kitchen is what I like to call the "artisan bread and olive oil" kind of dark. It's more reminiscent of Rembrandt and Vermeer paintings than the Hall of Mysteries. Though I wish I had that lacquer kitchen.
This is another vote for light, modern, and small, based on my home's architecture. The black walls might be useful for insomniacs' bedrooms, though.
