Most kids I know love doing little art projects; my 6 year old is constantly creating "books" that he is determined to sell to someone. But often, he gets started at the dining room table or the coffee table, and I'm always on the lookout, making sure he's got a pad underneath his creation so he doesn't gouge the table, or checking that he's not using Sharpies while sitting on the fabric dining chairs.
That's why I love this DIY art desk that's perfect as a kid's personal drawing space. It's completely portable, so your kids don't have to go to their rooms to work at a desk, and it takes up very little space. And, of course, it's clever and adorable.
Autie of iCandy Handmade created this cute desk from a leftover cupboard door. It's perfectly sized for little kids and even holds a few supplies inside. Paint it to match your decor or even have your kids weigh in on what they'd like to see on it.

Sprout Side Table
If you make this be sure to put a safety-lock type device so the lid will not slam closed on little fingers. These are available at home fix-up stores or from woodworking supply places.
This is essential because with the vigorous motion of drawing/coloring or just movement can bring the lid down.
