While we are focusing mainly on travel this month, our theme also includes the concept of escapes, with a little bit of that buzzword 'staycations' thrown in for good measure. When this backyard playset project was brought to our attention we knew it would fit the bill nicely. For less than the cost of admission for a family of four to Disney World, an ambitious DIY'er can build something that will provide the kids with years of entertainment.
View Along the Way is Kelly's blog detailing her family's adventures in fixing up their old house. Her husband Andy recently served as a guest blogger to share details on this wonderful backyard playset he built for their son Weston, modeled after ones he saw selling for over $1,000. After looking online for plans and coming up empty, he decided to design one himself.
Even better, like a good member of the DIY community, he created a tutorial on how he did it. It includes drawings, a list of materials, and a nice gallery of photos. His playset is huge (so there will be 'lots of room for activities'), coming in at 18' x 15', but the structure is simple enough to be modified to fit many backyards by making the tower smaller or reducing the number of swings. All in all an impressive weekend's worth of work. Well done!
