When graphic designer Lydia decided to upgrade the lighting in her reading nook, she knew she could create a high-end look for less by using humble materials to create a one of a kind fixture. With nothing more than an IKEA socket and lamp, sisal, paint and craft balls, she created a simple light that adds a touch of glamour to a comfy reading corner.
Painting the lampshade to soften the look worked for Lydia, though depending on your space. this project could be more dramatic if the shade remained high contrast black. Gold-leafing the inside of the shade creates that warm glow that bounces off the glass bubbles and makes this DIY project look like a purchase from a high-end lighting designer.

I want this space... except for the bubbles :)
Love the room and the chandelier. Where did you get the rug? Is it west elm?
@Ferniemor.
Thank you so much!
Nope, I did the rug all by myself;)
See right here...

I love the rug, too. Not the bubbles, though --sorry. (Gold leafing the shade works, though!)
