DIY: Cat Shelves for a Loft

In general, cat furniture (scratching posts, cat condos, cat trees, cat beds) is pretty unattractive. We know, we have the ugliest scratching post known to man.

That's why, when we came across this good-looking, DIY cat furniture project, we longed desperately to live in a loft, so that we could recreate it.

Our cats love to climb and we can't even imagine how they'd flip out for these DIY cat shelves.

Plus, they'd be so easy to assemble: Find some generously sized shelves (depending on the size and weight of your cat -- this project may or may not be a good idea) and cover them with discarded carpet samples. The designer who created the shelves pictured used 15 sample FLOR tiles.

We suppose you could recreate this project even if you didn't live in a loft, as long as you have decently high ceilings.

I like this a lot but I think I would use IKEA Lack shelves for a cleaner look.

Adjustable shelving would be great to keep your cats on their toes - or you could just swap in longer/shorter shelves periodically.

We're in the middle of a similar project! We don't live in a loft, but like the post mentioned, our ceilings are pretty high...

Great timing for this post! I've been thinking of building my cat just two or three shelves beside the window in my living room. She has nowhere suitably high to sit and watch birds in my new home.

Everything old is new again.

That said, if I had cats, I'd totally do this in my space.
