Yesterday we posted a roundup of bold and graphic rugs including an ever popular chevron (or zigzag if you prefer) rug. If you are looking for that same level of high impact in your room, but not in your wallet, here's a great DIY rug project that will cost you under $60.

Camila of High-Heeled Foot in the Door used a fabric of canvas like thickness, a drop cloth, a rug gripper, some spray tacky glue, some scotch guard and her sewing skills to make her rug. And while I personally love the chevron pattern, this DIY can take advantage of any of your favorite patterned fabric to make your own rug.

Sprout Side Table
I remember seeing this -- however I'm concerned about how well fabric will hold up to foot traffic. It looks amazing, no doubt -- I'd just be curious to know how it's holding up. Perhaps since it is of 'canvas-like' thickness, it will hold up better, but I imagine not nearly as well as a traditional rug.

Love the rug but was wondering about the tables. Can anyone identify them for me?
I love this idea -- thanks! I'd like an area rug for my apartment and this project sounds like fun (and in my super mini budget.)
I'm lusting after the curtains, any ideas where they came from?
Fantastic DIY! I am actually really thinking about trying a zig-zag one myself now for the hallway. How does it stand up to washing, do you know?
ooh, i like those curtains and tables, too. and the rug is a beaut.
I love this look. I saw a different DIY a few weeks ago involving painting the chevron stripes onto a white rug. Here's the link.
I like the rug and I wonder where the curtains came from? They would be perfect for my living space in my studio!!
love this idea! not up for painting so this is perfect. timely, too, as I've been hunting for a rug for our dining room.
I love the curtains too. Can anyone identify them?
Thanks Jess for featuring my rug! What a huge surprise!!!! So exciting!!!
The rug belows to my sister so I've actually been able to check out it's progress since installing it.
It's stayed clean and in place! We used scotchguard on it to repel stains and it's worked out really well.
Due to the fabric, the canvas (drop cloth) and the rug gripper being all together it's actually really sturdy.
I was dreading painting/taping lines for a chevron pattern so for me this was the easiest way to get the look I wanted.
Those small tulip like end tables were an amazing find from a thrift store. I think they were around $10 each.
The bamboo window treatments were also a thrift store find. Only $9.99 for the pair!
If anyway has any questions about the process etc you can reach me at cpavone0107@gmail.com.
this looks awesome and is definitely timely for me as well since I need something cheap and fast. Thanks Camila for answering everyone's questions!
This rug looks AMAZING. I've been trying to figure out a rug fix for my kids' playroom. I worry about the toxicity of the Scotchguard for babies that would crawl around in it. I was thinking a faux fur version might be amazing.
