DIY Christmas Stocking Holder

Fresh Cut Flowers

For those of us living without a fireplace or mantel, every December raises again the question of how to display Christmas stockings. Too many stocking holders work well only when the stockings themselves are empty — great for decorating but not as functional once Santa visits.

This lovely stocking holder started out life as the footboard of an old bed, and Terri found it at an estate sale for only $10. She gave it several coats of red paint (though she recommends instead starting with a grey primer to help with coverage), then added the holiday phrase using vinyl letters. With the addition of some hardware from Hobby Lobby, this DIY stocking holder was ready for hanging.

For those without the space to store such a large piece of holiday-only decor, consider leaving off the holiday phrase and using the piece as a coat rack or purse hanger 11 months of the year.
