We've been following the progress of the new nursery over at Young House Love. Their most recent project is this fun and easy DIY crib skirt.
The crib skirt is a must have when babies are young and the mattress level is set at the highest. In many cribs, this results in an unattractive gap between the mattress and the bottom rail of the bed. If you do it yourself, you can use the fabric you like. Best of all, this project is a no-sew project! Check out the full post and detailed instructions over at Young House Love.

Lovely. Wish i had done something like that with our crib!

Bumper pads may often be too fat to double as a bedskirt though.

very cute idea and love the crib. where did you get the crib?
pretty sure that is the baby mod crib, park lane from walmart(!) we have it also but are not using the drawer below. i also made a crib skirt for it.
Using the bumper as a crib skirt is a great idea if it's not too thick. Although, you don't often see a bumper for sale that isn't a packaged deal with a crib skirt too. Really, there's no good time to use a bumper as a bumper. When babies are younger, it's a SIDS risk. As they get older and more mobile, they will sometimes try to use it as a step, in an attempt to get out of the crib. I don't know about anyone else, but I worry enough about my daughter somehow managing to climb out of her crib with nothing in there. I don't need anything else to make me worry even more! I will admit to being a paranoid mother though.
You can see the same crib in Fionn's room here http://roomforyoungones.blogspot.com/2010/02/our-new-flor-rug.html (or at Room Tours under Baby Daley on the left banner). To be honest, bumpers are sort of a non-issue with this crib, as I found there's no easy way to tie it onto these thick rails. My crib set came with both bumper and crib skirt and blanket. Luckily there are lots of companies that sell bedding by the piece now. (See this recent post on bedding as well) http://roomforyoungones.blogspot.com/2010/03/bw-bedding-frilly-to-mod.html . Jaime

please please tell me where you got that fab mirror. i've been in search of a good one for the nursery for months now. love it!
i love this because the skirt won't move when you change the sheets. our crib skirt is always lopsided because it gets moved every week when the sheets get changed. it drives me nuts. this looks so nice!
thanks for the advice about crib bumpers. i am a first time mom and i have been debating about whether they were neccessary and/or safe or not. the general concensus seems to be that they are more risky than not.
