If you're stuck with a non-functioning fireplace, forgo the stacked books and candles in favor of rustic logs that give your room a nice warm feeling. Before you start imagining all the spiders that might be crawling in and out of your living room, we're going to let you in on something: they're not real!
Well actually, the logs are quite real, and the ones used by Pepper Design Blog are neatly sliced eucalyptus wood. But rather than stacking a pile of firewood in her fireplace, home blogger Morgan mounted wooden "discs" onto plywood backing for a facade that requires much less maintenance.
Our favorite thing about this project is how customizable it is — you can choose logs with interesting grains or different diameters, stain the wood or seal it up, paint the plywood a bold color to match or contrast with your decor, and remove the facade when you tire of it (or when your fireplace starts working again).
