Here's a sentence I never thought I'd write: doilies are so hot right now. We've seen some crafty repurposing of these lovely laces recently and this charming pendant lamp is no exception.

This pendant lampshade comes from Swedish website Calinas. There's enough pictorial instructions to get the gist of how she made it, and the process is similar to the string pendant lamp if you'd like text directions in English.
There's a lot of intricate detail and work that goes into hand-sewing doilies, so it's great to see them out of granny's trunk and on display in fresh new ways!

Shaw's Original Fir...
These can't catch fire or anything when the bulb is hot right?
@jojo26: No, if they are starched and cured properly, fire isn't a worry.
I'm also 100% sure my mom could kick out a sweet doily lamp!
That would be totally cute as long as the rest of the room has NO country-chic stuff in it.
Erm...doilies aren't "hand sewn." They're crocheted. :)
But other than that, cute lamp, even if it's not my style. I don't do doilies but as a knitter and crocheter it's fun to see handcrafts as decor.
could you use a watered down mod podge instead of wallpaper paste? that would seem easier, no?
Doilies are far too closely associated in my neurology with the sight of intravenous tubes and sad Jesus paintings and the smell of dust, bodily fluids and antiseptic for me to ever use them in interior decorating.
It's actually easier and better to do a sugar starch. No, it won't catch fire. AND when they get really dusty as these things tend to do, just through the whole shade in the wash and re-starch.
PS: I'm so in love with doilies and have been for years. I got a hot pink one for my wedding. I didn't know what to do with it so I used a 2ft embroidery hoop and hung it up on the wall. It's pretty much awesome.

You're right, quilt master, that one you linked is sick!
I'm into the doily trend. It doesn't surprise me that the rest of the MCM-lovin' AT peeps aren't. More for me.
At last. Now I have something to do with all those doilies I've collected from my family members over the years and it will drive my family NUTS. They hate them.
It would be much better if it was a whole sphere instead of half a sphere. I read a tutorial on this and a bunch of people commented that after they popped the balloon, the dollies collapsed.
No. No way.
I don't think I'd ever be into this use of doillies. First, because I associate them with grandmothers and country chic, and second because of the awkward shadows this would cast on the wall (as evidenced in the link quilt master gave). I want visual simplicity and wabisabi, not lace-shaped shadows.
