The diagram up top is of something I honestly never thought I would see: drawer pulls made of doll body parts! While the drawings look fine enough, the finished project in the flesh is a bit unsettling. Click on through to see it:
After reading more about the project, it turns out the pulls are a part of a bathroom renovation for a young girl's room. That makes the look seem a little less scary (or is it more scary)? Either way, we're impressed with the thought and planning that went into this unique DIY. Read more about it at Fixing Up the Place. The site is full of lots more DIY home improvement projects that make for fun browsing.

Shaw's Original Fir...
This would give me nightmares.
That is so unbelievably gruesome.
Ha ha, kind of macabre.
HORRIBLE! No!
Disturbing! Maybe only appropriate for a haunted house... or really bad joke to play on a sibling ....
Glad to know I'm not the only one freaking out at these.
NNNNOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
sick
For the love of God.
Who lives here, Sid from Toy Story?
Beyond creepy. But... I kind of dig it. Not the heads but the arms and legs. In the right space, with maybe one drawer done? Could be interesting.
Yeah...no. I don't understand the current obsession with dismembered dolls. Check out some of the doll parts posts on Craftster. CREEPY!
maybe in the house of Hannibal lecter
maybe with less realistic arms and heads.... like from a transformer doll? orrrr a Mr potato head?
This is a horrible idea.
Am I the only other one who thinks this is cute? Ok, not in the kitchen, but maybe a kids doll storage bin in their room?
Haha, it's creepy but it's also hilarious how many people think this would do permanent damage to a child. Most children I know of would get a kick out of this.
That is truly odd. Not particularly effective drawer pulls, not aesthetically interesting or pleasing, just odd.
Sorry, to me this is very ugly. Don't like the doll heads as planters either.
atarichamp - you are correct, kids love creepy. While this is not my thing I think it's fun. What I don't get is putting it in a perfectly middle of the road lavender bathroom. Where's the New York Dolls shower curtain?
This is terrible! The idea of little chubby legs and arms protruding from drawer fronts! Not only that can you imagine what that doll's hair will look like in a year after steamy showers and the hairspray usage of a teenage girl. Might as well hang a toilet brush on the wall!
Courtney Love singing "Doll Parts". That song popped up in my head immediately when I saw this...
This looks like a scene out of a horror film!
really?
I don't get it and I don't like it.
hahaha- everyones so grossed out. They're plastic. Sheesh.
That being said, I think it's ugly as is.
IMO- no heads. Save those for a wall mounted display.
The arms and legs as pulls I think are humorous but the design above doesnt have enough confidence to pull it off. Those drawers should each be painted different bold colors so it looks like a fun, *designed* piece rather than like someone slapped some old doll parts on a boring bathroom cabinet.
I hope they've also put some of these arms / legs on the wall as robe and towel hooks.
HORRIFYING
Looks like something from a Tim Burton movie. I like it.
Creepy!! I would wonder about the person who did this.
FREAKY!!!
I just had one more thing to add. A toddler might get his eye poked with one of those arms or legs.
I don't know why everyone has their panties in a bunch about this. While it is far from my personal aesthetic, I actually think this is an interesting concept that could be applied to other objects. Each to their own!
well done AT.
who wants to see normal stuff all the time?
ha.
the blog said it's for a 17 year old. and it was posted over a year ago, so i wonder what it looks like now? I appreciate the inspiration to think outside the bix box store drawer pulls. like sara.b said, it could work if it wasn't so lifelike.
Hideous. Horrifying. Awful.
That's just really creepy and ugly. I don't care about the whole "what about the children?" argument of it because it's silly, but this is just flat out ugly.
This is hilarious - although I keep thinking what it would be like to open a cabinet in the dark eeekkk
I mean.... this is absurd and creepy and hilarious. I can't believe it's real.
I love all the "Won't someone think of the CHILDREN!"
For me, this is weird and would totally give me nightmares. But, then so does all the Day of the Dead stuff. So...
But still...it's all kinda funny...and creepy.
So creepy, but I kind of like the legs.
The head is scary
Gross.
SO CREEPY.
@QueenOfTheFall - It's really silly, isn't it? I mean, people should probably stop being so sensitive about whether this is going to damage poor Susie's psyche, and focus on the fact that this is just flat out UGLY.
Creepy.
Very Creepy
It's funny, creepy, and horrible all at the same time. I think they fail at being practical drawer pulls, they are much too long. Cut them down to just hands and feet if you want to do it correctly ;)
Creepiest thing ever!
I want to see a before and after of the doll babies. Painted black of course. Or turquoise.
I would have loved this if so much when I was 17.
haha, i'm laughing at these comments! so funny.
yes- very odd. and i even LIKE things that are odd. but not this. eek!
maybe if i was 17 and in my "goth" stage with red walls and a black ceiling. then it would be awesome!
Funny, but no. Sorry.
hahahaha! @teeze - arms and legs as towel and robe hooks! No, really...how cool would that be. Paint body parts same color as wall. Barbie arms and legs for holding necklaces and earrings! OK...we're on to something here!
@edmarch, perfect comment.
this is an actual home project not some sort of damien hirsch exhibition? no way.
Hopefully the creator of this is being seen by a mental health professional and is not in possession of a machete or rapid fire gun.
I am going to show this to my kids and tell them that if they don't start cleaning their room that I'll do the same with their dolls. Thanks, AT!
First of all, thanks for the repost, AT!
I am the deranged mother who did this for/with her child and these comments are hysterical.
This was done almost 12 years ago (I was posting about older projects on my short-lived blog) when my daughter was a high school art student.
No matter, it was great fun and most of the doll parts are still functioning and not gross...the bathroom gets cleaned, people.
And wow, you folks are easily creeped out!
Nope, sorry, I think it's awful. The aesthetics are awkward, the joke is weak -- if the owners like it, fine, but as a design concept I hate it.
(I have seen other toys, more solidly constructed and "knoblike" that worked much better. I'm not opposed to the general concept, just this implementation.)
One word CHUCKY
No for several reasons - it is ugly, doll parts like that aren't comfortable in the hand, that kinda plastic gets gunky and it is creepy.
CREEEEEEEEPY!
It gives me the shivers. Many years ago when I was about seven, a friend and I found an old, old doll in the corner of an abandoned house. I will never forget how creepy that was.
This is basically what the home I moved into looks because of my new roomates.
The rest of you are just too old.
Actually, I am very good friends with the owners who live in The Height's Historic District in Houston, Texas. And their house is fabulous and they are an amazing, sweet, giving couple!!!
are you serious?
this is ugly and creepy
I think AT has officially been trolled.
So creepy....
This is the creepiest thing I have ever seen.
I think AT is trying to give their readers a sense of humour, or humour to the AT readers who have one :D
Hmm. I don't mind a little creepy and macabre, say on a little night stand or side table with a single little drawer, and with small porcelain arms/feet, but that's a bit overpowering.
I think it's more goofy than creepy, and looks like DIY goth girl stuff.
I find this to be really creepy and completely unnecessary. :)
SAW VII
this is ridiculous and terrible.
I'm not sure what to think. I'm all for wacky and fun and if the users love it then why not. You are an awesome mom. I'm not sure I would have agreed to using doll parts for cabinet hardware. :)
If you're going to do this... do it with some cool twist... make it Barbie or He-Man or spray paint them silver/gold? Dunno... It's just creepy to me all the way around.
I think this might work if the doll parts were painted or if you could somehow get the hands to hold a crystal knob pull. Just thinking about that makes me crack up!
This is the creepiest thing I've ever seen! I got chills now.
This goes great with the vampire furniture.
Hilarious. I really like this idea.
The actual execution doesn’t quite work, though. Like teeze noted, there is no cohesive design or context, so it just comes off as kind of weird. But I think it could be quite brilliant. And I also agree that the heads don’t work as pulls, though they’d make a fun installation piece.
Creepy.
I think you can take the concept and switch out the heads for transformer doll/toys or robot arms.
I don't mind the pulls, just the hideous bathroom that they were placed in.
I'm not creeped out by this, however I do think it's very ugly.
Creepiest thing I've seen here so far. What's next?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!
Best post/comments of the day!
I love it... and I love that it's a different vein of creative decorating. I'm kind of confused at all of the overly dramatic and horrified comments... who's out there!? Right now I'm picturing in my head a mass collection of old biddies in nursing homes squinting into their computers while they gasp and clutch their hearts out of horror. Go back to Martha Stewart's website, and curl back into the fetal positions, ladies and gentlemen!
Is this about how to raise serial killers? I personally like it and think it's amazingly unique, but not appropriate for a child's room.
Creep. EE.
JEEZ.US.
Scary!
Hilarious. Ugly, but hilarious.
Hannibal. Lecter.
Makes me wan chianti. Dunno why.
Reminds me of the1990's bike curriers in Vancouver had baby doll parts plastered on their bikes! Very funny!
gross. seriously...and not even novel.....wtf?
thanks, now i can't sleep tonight.
so creepy.
Ick.
On the other hand, using say, small plastic dinosaurs (whole) or animals...spiders?
I cant do this whole dolls' heads thing - they LOOK at me. And the arms would grab me in the dark - who could relax on the loo?
haha, this is so wonderfully macabre. I love that its for a kid too. This is something I would do when I have kids.
As thorndale stated: "Awful. Hilarious."
This post and the subsequent comments gave me some real jollies this morning; thanks to all!
I wouldn't have it - kinda tacky, imo, but I think it is very funny. Although if I saw it in someone's house I'd wonder about mental health issues of the occupant(s)...
If it were in a very overall avant garde space with a lot of whimsy belonging to some really artsy folks and maybe executed with porcelain to tone down the tack-factor...
It maybe has a kind of gothic quality to it too, so it could work in a space that's done in Early Dungeon... bwa ha ha ha ha!
Commenters keep writing that it's Goth, but it seems more Punk to me. The explanatory post by the mom who did the installation is very interesting--thanks for sharing!
This gives me an idea for a DIY:
Dildo Drawer Pulls!
:-P
creepy!!!!!
hey, that's my bathroom, fools. :)
you know, live a little.
LOL @ bepsf comment :)
Maybe at the morgue but not in a child's bathroom. Maybe there's some pre-conditioning going on here, though. Mortician, medical examiner, taxonimist, anatomical artist; any number of occupations that would benefit from this early exposure. Okay. But only if the kid likes it!
Creepy and amazing but also super fugly. On the other hand, it's for a little kid, and when did you last consult a little kid for your interior design choices? I like the periwinkle wall color. It looks so innocuous. XD
This is not ok. Anywhere.
This is plain ugly. I can see how it is disturbing to some people because it kinda is but above all it is ugly. Yuck.
