DIY Egg Carton Dollhouse Furniture

My Cup Overflows

For some reason, I have a special place in my heart for things that are miniature. If it's tiny, I'm in, which is why I love dollhouses and their furniture, even though my kids aren't really on board. When I saw this creative dollhouse furniture made from egg cartons, my heart gave a little "Squee!" It's small and adorable and perfectly eco-friendly.

Amanda from My Cup Overflows made this furniture for her daughter's 10th birthday. The party was Kit Kittredge-themed (for those not in the know, she's an American Girl doll), and since Kit's backstory is that she grew up in the depression, Amanda wanted to make everything at the party accurate for that time period. Since egg cartons were invented in 1917, she knew she was good to go, and upcycling something into a toy was just the thing that Kit might have needed to do herself.

The furniture is so clever; I love in particular the chair that looks like a kind of mid-century modern pod chair (photo #2). There are toilets, bathtubs, couches, beds, lamps, a kitchen sink and stove, and a desk, among other accessories. Amanda went above and beyond by making 10 sets of furniture for the guests at the party.

You can make your own sets by looking at all the photos on Amanda's site. With a little paint, your kids can customize their very own house full of furniture.
