Made from an old farm fence, this headboard is a cheap and unique way to emphasize your bed. With little knowledge of scary saws and complex tools you can create this easy DIY project at home. All you need is scrap wood!
Dana at House Tweaking shows us how to create this masterpiece in no time at all. It only requires some sanding and piecing together of scrap wood pieces. She added a unique touch and painted 'love' onto her headboard. What a great idea! I keep thinking off all the things I would paint on mine...

I love this
Love the yellow with the sandy-gray wood.
All I can think about though, is splinters and horse / cow poop!
I think re-purposing old items has become a great boon for the money conscious, but for things that will have human contact often (like tables, railings and even headboards), I wouldn't use anything that was pressure treated. Think of all the kids' playgrounds with chemically treated wood that we touched as kids. Just a thought.
I neeeed that cute yellow pillow!
The thing I love most about this is that it came from somewhere special. Somewhere with history and soul. Love what Dana has done with her home - makes me wish I wasn't a renter!
Not a sitting-up-in-bed-to-read headboard (too rough) but definitely a stunner for a summer cottage/guest bedroom. My word would be "dream". Or even "guest" if in the guest br.
I saw this on her blog and thought it was a great "found art" piece. It's not for everyone, but if you see the rest of her style, it fits right in.
Personally, I think it's ingenious. And cheap. I like cheap.
Aside from the potential pressure treated chemicals and maybe lead paint chips, it really bugs me that it's not the full width of the bed. so it looks like art hung behind the bed, and not a headboard.
...and now i feel bad because i just read the blog post, and the fence wood is from her husband's grandmother's house, who had just passed away. way to turn a very personal story into a generic "style" post, AT!
I LOVE this...and I think the wood looks awesome.
Splinters on the top of your head. Think about it.
I love this, with the organic contrast in the mosern space, and the story behind the wood.
Those of you who are worried about splinters apparently don't understand the use of sand paper.
brilliant and beautiful! love it!
Love it. Please don't write "Guest" on your headboard...
Dana is so creative, and what a great use of an item that really means something to her husband. Great way to incorporate a personal, family item, and so tastefully done.
