I love visiting the Habitat ReStore to find great thrifty furniture and home accessories, but I have never had the confidence to wander into the home building supplies department. Though, that's not to say that I haven't been tempted. The problem is, I have no purpose for reclaimed doorknobs and cabinet doors — or do I? This DIY headboard idea from Elizabeth has me reconsidering my next trip to the ReStore.

Elizabeth, of Delightfully Tacky, posted a creative DIY project at A Beautiful Mess last week that really inspired me to take a second look at the inexpensive construction materials available at the Habitat for Humanity ReStores. The whole project was as simple as combining inexpensive building supplies with found cabinet doors to create a unique headboard on the cheap. It's a great DIY project that is easy to do and looks awesome too!

The jury is still out on this for me. Maybe this pic is just a bad example. It just looks like lumber stacked up against the wall, and only adds to the visual chaos. Not sure what the point of it is here. It doesn't really add anything.
Remove the cluttered artwork and this headboard will shine.
Fusty.
as long as the wood and smooth and not a splinter haven it's fine
You say beautiful mess... I say hot mess.
Habitat ReStore sometimes has some old doors that would make a nice looking headboard without all the extra work. I think the idea here might look better if the wood pieces were a little more similar and related to the style of the room. (aged white boards with interesting details, for example) Also, you might consider replacing the lava lamp with something more in line with the style of your quilt and other furnishings.
No. It just looks cheap and college dorm-y in this room. It would only really work in a 'cleaner' room: coordinated bedding, rich color on the walls, neatly arranged art, better bedside table, less clutter, etc.
This particularly bedroom isn't 'wrong'. But the headboard just adds to the visual clutter and confusion. She really should have gone for a traditional headboard given how DIY everything else looks.
Pretty cool, I even like the wall clutter- a little crazy, but it seems to work in this case :)
Horrible looking nightmare of a headboard.
I have to agree with most here, too cluttered. Might be OK with more of a minimal approach.
About the Habitat store, my boyfriend is building a house (literally, he's a carpenter), and we found a fantastic green vintage sink and floor tile. He found a matching green toilet at another place. We make the rounds at least once a week to see what's shown up. We're trying to source as much second hand as possible.
Um. No. Sorry, but it's hideous.
Yep, hideous. And, @ngnerd, without the lava lamp, where would she put her irony? Gaak.
Like! The rawness shown here, is sorely missing in much of contemporary interior design.
Don't be surprised if a designer latches on, polishes it for the masses, and has a hit.
Dislike! It looks like a big fat mess.
@ladymantle - BAAAHAAHAA! Love your comment!
@artfemme11 - Wow! Way to judge her person based on her room!
I personally love it! It doesn't look so polished and lifeless, which is absolutely refreshing.
Dreadful.
Meh. God-f'in-awful.
I agree with slowdown. I felt the headboard was a poor example of a "delightful" design. It just adds to the worn out feeling of the room.
Cool! Only problem for me is sleeping with my head under those hanging cameras.

Wow! Talk about rude comments. Apparently none of the above have heard the saying "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." Hello high school.
ditto @ halenalynn
i really like the headboard itself :)
Utterly depressive! One should really visit a doctor if has no trouble sleeping next to this - or, rather, the people close to him/her should do so quickly...
@halenalynn Why? Saying nothing when you deeply dislike something subject to public view and opinion IS high school.
