Whether you're hosting a Halloween party, creating a creepy table setting, or looking for some dark illumination this DIY idea is the answer! These black mason jars, found at Pure and Noble blog, have a fun spooky look and make inexpensive candle holders and vases.
All you need is a mason jar or glass bottle of your choice, some matte spray paint and a glue gun (if you're looking to add text to the bottle). Image a whole row of them lining a walkway for trick or treaters and party guests!

This seems kinda wasteful, doesn't it?
You can't recycle glass once it's painted like that, and I wouldn't want to re-use a jar once it's been painted with spray paint.
But.. they do look cool...
I love that candleholder or vase on the right. I actually think I have it! Anyone know anything about it? I got it at a mom and pop thrift store.
I don't think it's wasteful. Instead of going out and purchasing more Halloween decorations they have taken something they already own and re-used it. They will probably use it over and over again for many years.
I guess, as someone who cans food using jars like these, it seems wasteful to use a trendy canning jar instead of a pasta sauce jar, or something else that will probably end up in the recycling bin anyway.
There are a lot of alrernatives out there that would give the exact same effect and actually divert waste rather than destroy something that is made to be reused many many times.
I can see if it's a jar with chips or cracks, which can't be re-used for canning, but I can see people doing this only for the aesthetic and forgetting about the implications of destroying the re-usability feature.
