I just adore octopuses. They're as beautiful as they are delicious. It might seem strange to call an octopus beautiful, but there's nothing like watching their coiling legs as they undulate through the water – unless it's a ribbon of rising smoke. And there's something a little otherworldly or Cthulhoid about octopuses, which gives them a bit of edge as a décor element. A school of mermaids or angelfish or seahorses might be twee, but an octopus on a dresser is just cool.
That's why I was so excited to see this amazing octopus dresser from Brooklyn Limestone. But as someone with not-the-best hand-eye coordination, this seemed like an aspirational sort of piece I might admire in someone else's home but never attain for myself. (Sort of like that ubiquitous Hermès throw.)
It turns out it isn't so bad, though. With the help of a friendly overhead projector, the project was done in just a couple hours. And the best part is, it could be done with pretty much any image. I do love the octopus, though.
