If your taste leans toward minimalism, you can still have color available when you want it but keep it neutral when the mood strikes. In this piece from young Swedish design collaboration How Are You, a simple plywood cabinet can blend into a minimalist room with clean lines and neutral color, but when the cabinet is left open a bit, a shock of pink is revealed, allowing for color when you want it.

I have a cabinet like this. Every time I look at it I think I like it plain, but I want it to pop in some way. This is a great idea!
Great idea for so many boring storage pieces, from a closet or kitchen cabinets to a kid's toy armoire...
Wow - I wish I had a ton of extra time (or money to hire someone) to paint the insides of all my kitchen cabinets in this way. What a lovely idea - I'll bet it would look great too if you had this effect in a glass-fronted kitchen cabinet.
seriouslysassymama, where did you get it? I would love something like that.
Just like people- bright and shiny and full of color on the inside.
Ombre :D so beautiful . . .
We just put in a new kitchen island and while the outside is painted white, all of the drawers and inside of the cabinets is bright green! I love it!
I scored a heavy cherry-wood bookcase many years ago for thirty bucks, and immediately took out the shelves and painted the back panel a bright peach. I never ever get tired of looking at it.
