I love bags, especially reusable bags. I have my reusable grocery bags, I have take-a-long shopping bags, but I hadn't found a produce bag that I liked enough to remember to bring along until I found this tutorial for t-shirt produce bags.
So simple and easy - plus it's a great way to get the husband to get rid of a few of those old shirts from college! Delia Creates describes how they'll use their new creations:
You can pack them in with your reusable grocery bags so you remember to use them at the store. I don't think they can entirely replace the plastic bags. Sometimes you need those to keep the food fresh or for very small produce.I will likely bring them with me to the farmer's market or to pick and store my harvest from my own garden. Or, as my husband suggested (he is a genius) you can use them at the beach for your sandals!

Howard Butcher Bloc...
so awesome!
i use bags made from my mother in law's saree...this is awesme too
I would think, if they get too heavy, they'd rip.
I've made these before and use them ALL THE TIME at the market. So easy. So useful!
I think these bags are super adorable. One of the main uses I get out of bags for produce is to group them together when they are weighed. I'm concerned I'd be tacking too much extra weight onto all my purchases with bags like these, though.
This is the best gift idea I've seen so far. I have some "Life Is Good" T shirts in wonderful colors that just never fit right. My funds are low right now, so this is a perfect gift option. I wouldn't weight them in with the produce purchase but just pack after purchase and carry.
Thank you for this wonderful post. You saved me so much $$$ on gift ideas.
Misterkrista, you might check w/your grocery store. Often the will weigh your bag at customer service and subtract that amount at the check-stand. You could save time by having them write the weight on the bags you re-use.
