This is an unusual look that's quite handsome and we'd imagine nice to the touch: leather strap cabinet pulls!
While they look pretty pricey, we think this could easily be diy-ed. Think of using old belts or handles and through-bolting them to doors and drawers. For more DIY leather pull inspiration, check out the example pictured below from The Improvised Life. While these cabinets aren't in a kitchen, they could be!

Shaw's Original Fir...
Where did the cabinet pulls from the first photo come from? I mean, they look pricey, but maybe they aren't.
Hmmm... Soapy wet hands or hands covered in flour or some other food stuff. There is a clear logic behind solid surface cabinet pulls. Those are attractive but I would destroy them rather quickly.
Yeah, not in the kitchen. In a den or bedroom, sure, but unless your kitchen is just for show (which does happen) these would be destroyed, not to mention harboring bacteria, rather quickly.
I'm like ElaneB: my kitchen hands would give the wrong patina to the leather pulls in no time. I feel like they could work for people who don't really cook or perhaps used in another room. Would like to see nails a little more sexy than galvanized steel, though.
I have a pull out cutting board simlar the first picture and I think having one, unique pull on that would be beautiful. my googlefu tells me it comes from turnstyledesigns.com. and is about $90. Seems a bit ridiculous for ONE pull but I bet my uncle has the right tools (carpenter/cabinet maker) to help me make something similar. Thanks for the suggestion AT!
Very nice looking, but as others said it's not a good idea in the kitchen. On the entertainment center or bedroom dresser perhaps.
I like the pulls in the first photo and maybe since they are so dark you wouldn't notice the everyday use on them (still don't think I would have them in my kitchen...just not my style). The pulls in the second photo are way too light and you would see every grease and grape juice stain. Not good.
Gorgeous for a kitchen that is used for entertaining rather than cooking!
Agree with others - attractive, but not practical for the kitchen. After removing 50-year old handles from my kitchen, I am way too intimate with the concept that handles need to be thoroughly cleaned every so often. I'll spare you the details.
I personally don't find these very attractive. A Samsonite kitchen isn't really for me.
Ever since I first saw these, I've been thinking they would be great on a dresser or desk in the bedroom. Here's another place to buy a very pretty version: http://www.spinneybeck.com/shop/LeatherPull.aspx?ProductType=LPSSLNG
Love these!
They'd look great in an old-world office, library, or even a bathroom, too.
Germs or no, they'd be lovely in a kitchen or entertaining area.
I think this look could work on any doors or drawers in the house, I just love the look (and the fact that is seems do be an easy DIY-er)! In the picture it looks like the leather used in the kitchen has a protect finish to it which would make it really durable, easy to clean, and completely kitchen friendly I think.
I love this idea I've been looking for pulls to replace the ones on my desk and these hit just the right note. I've got tons of leather samples laying around and never thought of this. I don't understand the concern though of using them in the kitchen, I cook all the time and yes my hand get dirty but I rinse them before I go to open anything. Honestly how often do you have to clean your kitchen cabinet hardware? If it's often then you might just want to look at you own habits, with some leather conditioner and the water protecter for shoes you'd have to work hard to mess these up.
Hmmmm. I think it's the lack of practicality that makes me shy away from this and a lot of other kitchen trends. Yes, a kitchen can and should look good, but it should still be functional enough to serve its purpose.
Well, I'd consider it for a desk or a nightstand.
But for a kitchen? Ew. No. I deal with oils and sauces in there.
Perfect for an office desk. Have to pin it!
I'm with PastLifeDesigns. I wipe my hands and avoid contaminating things I don't clean often. So my greasy hands usually get washed before I grab a spoon for tasting spaghetti sauce. And they are sooooooo sexy....
