Have you ever thought you'd make something on the cheap and it ends up costing more than you bargained for? Here is a DIY art project direct from the dollar store won't break the budget, and you'll serve up some serious style for your kitchen walls.
Char from Crap I've Made came up with this inexpensive craft project using supplies from the dollar store that anyone can execute quickly and easily. Just spray paint a frame and some plastic flatware, wrap fabric around the frame backing and mount.
This idea is so simple and inexpensive, not to mention completely customizable. You can switch up not only the colors and fabrics, but also the utensils. Go dainty with old specialty silverware like shrimp forks or grapefruit spoons, or more industrial with thrift store hand mixers or graters.

White Enamel Four-P...
Ugh. Why does kitchen art have to be kitchen-themed? So trite and tiresome. Break free from the mold! Hang whatever you want!
Wow, @YoNella, that was pretty mean.
Yet at the same time you say, "Hang whatever you want!"
...maybe that's what she wanted.
I don't think there is anything trite and tiresome about this creative project. In fact, it could inspire all sorts of similarly made art. Spray-paint your junk, hang it in a frame-->art! (No sarcasm intended. :)) Love the color combo of this too.
You'd call it ironic if it came with a Missoni label!
Can the display of plastic be an uglier? Wow!
I think it looks great for the price tag and time it took to make!
These would be great for decorating the set of "The Room".
Interesting. I like it.
I would probably have tried this with vintage metal cutlery from the goodwill, at 13c apiece they won't break the budget and often have very nice patterns. I'm not sure if mounting them with the extra weight would be more difficult, but plastic cutlery is a big turnoff for me so I would definitely try an alternate route.
@bjdesign and Holler-- the silverware IS metal, she spray painted it
Strong colors - cool!
