I enjoy going out of my way to create an experience when I'm entertaining, especially for the holidays. Even the little things can make a huge impact — including coasters. However, coasters are unnecessarily expensive and can easily be made at home!

Martha Stewart came up with a genius DIY solution to expensive coasters and all you need are a few tiles, lace and spray paint. Chances are you may have these three components already around the house.
Simply place the lace on top of the coasters in a way you see fit, spray the paint over the lace and let sit for a few minutes to dry — remove the lace and you're finished! You can get as creative as you want with this and make interesting shapes and designs. The options are endless!

Most tiles have hard, scratchy backs--the opposite of what one wants in a coaster.
This is a neat idea...I think I would finish off the bottom of the tile with a bit of felt...or at least stick little felt dots on them to protect the surfaces of furniture.
Hmm.. I always thought coasters were meant to soak up the water from a sweating glass, not keep the glass from marring the table.
What about using thin flat cork? Or felt? Cut out your coaster shapes and then spray paint? Therer are many possibilities! They do look so pretty.
