It was only a matter of time before I posted another DIY headboard project, but what can I say. I love me some do-it-yourself headboards! This particular project is great if you have a wall to fill and are willing to make a statement with your headboard. Note that it requires patience and an eye for detail to make it look as spectacular as Brooke's.

After staring at the headboard for a while, I couldn't figure out how Brooke created the almost tufted feel across such a large expanse of fabric and foam. Turns out that the headboard is actually made up of 17 individually upholstered squares (hence the note about patience and attention to detail). While this project is no doubt time intensive, the final product seems well worth the time investment.

Shaw's Original Fir...
I ADORE this.
That...is..amazing..I'm speechless.
wow! very timely, as this will be my summer project. I am planning to do a long, low, grey linen padded wall/headboard made of rectangular panels.
LOVE this. And I'm not one for large headboards, either. This one is fantastic.
I tried to comment on her All Things Thrifty site but am having some trouble. She is really detailed with instructions but then just simply says to mount the pieces to the board. It seems the whole project is pretty self explanatory except for this mounting part. Help?
Beautiful!
@DesignDiva3 - I had trouble getting from step to step on the mounting part as well. I think they probably used staples, as I can't imagine glue could hold it well enough.
If you look closely at the larger version of the back of the headboard (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_mfwl2KBT-r0/S6_dHPyQvqI/AAAAAAAAAVM/TB0TPJoxjBE/s1600/little camera 3-28-10 106.JPG) there looks to be a grouping of staples or rivets every so often. I believe they most likely stapled the individual pieces to the backer board.
What a great idea! I've been looking at so many different headboard but have yet to find the right one. This might just qualify! :)
zoee, you're right! I looked a bit more closely, and in the pic under step 10, there's a tube? of liquid nails at the bottom of the photo. Good tip, would probably be a lot easier than nailing through.
To hang it on the wall, you can buy these interlocking hanger thingys from a hardware store. Can't explain them well, but you mount half to the wall, half to the object being hung and then slide them together.
Also, thanks for the tip about thicker foam... we are also hoping for a bit of soundproofing (noisy neighbours, grr), so that would probably help!
honestly they did this in Gossip Girl in Sabrina's bedroom for the past 3 years with a much more attractive pattern
Man, and I thought *I* had a lot of pillows. What is that, like 12?
I really like this a lot. I think what I like most is that you really could do this in a LOT of different types of bedrooms with different types of fabric. Cool!
@matt manfredini - thank you! even though it wasn't the nicest comment, you made me google gossip girl and that headboard is almost exactly what I want... I have been looking for inspiration for months, so thanks for pointing me in that direction.
and I will try not to post on this article again, haha, how can you tell I'm excited!
WOW! I'm bookmarking this one.
Very nice!
I am the creator of the headboard, and I wanted to answer some of your questions about the mounting process. We (my husband and I) decided to mount the individual boards to one larger backer board so that it could be hung as one piece. We used liquid nails and short 1/4 inch wood screws to secure the upholstered boards to the backer board.
After all 17 boards were secure, we used two D-ring hooks to hang the headboard. Important: We had to install the D-rings in precisely the right place on the back of the headboard. The hooks were aligned for studs in the wall since the headboard was so heavy.
Thank you for the feature and your fun comments. :)
