Turn a blank, boring stretch of wall in a kid's room into a creative outlet — using just a piece of sheet metal and some nails. A great alternative to magnetic paint, this magnet wall has holding power.
Jordan from Oh Happy Day had always had a magnet wall in the back of her mind ever since she and her son, Moses, played with one in a store and loved it. So when the opportunity arose — when Moses had his own room at last! — she took the plunge and had a custom piece of sheet metal cut to fit a little expanse of wall. With a little bit of precision, a handful of nails, and about ten minutes, Jordan had Moses all set with his little alphabet area.

I purchased a condo 3 years from the brother of a woman who was a hoarder. I found a metal calendar dated 1987 that I painted the back side white and used that for magnets.
I like it!
I want a magnet wall - but I want to paint it the wall color, to make the artwork pop.
I think the poster is charming. "The Little Prince" is not pretentious.
Fun alternative to chalkboard paint walls! I used to love magnets like this as a kid and will be keeping this in mind for my baby's eventual big girl room. As to the poster, I think it is cute particularly given the family just spent a year in Paris.
Fun! I had this idea several years ago but the space that we had wasn't as high (wainscoting) and so I had it cut, which was a big problem considering the sharp edges and that it's hard to cut straight with metal snips. I love that this goes all the way to the ceiling.
@Mary B C - The sheet metal could totally be painted to match the wall!
This looks like a fun project. And I am a big believer in helping kids to appreciate their numbers for math, and their letters for literacy! So this is just great magnet project! Easy to DIY.
I like that it is tall, so they can continue to use as they grow taller.
We did this in our kid's room. We had sheet metal cut to size at the store we bought it from, then put molding around all the sides so it wasn't sharp on the edges. We have lots of interesting magents to play with, but also we made a balls & pipes track with magnets in the track so we can move it all around. It has been hours of fun!
When I saw this, I called a friend who runs an online cut-to-size sheet metal business. He cautions that if you're not buying this in person (and hanging a magnet on it), you want to ask specifically if the metal is magnetic (stainless steel is typically not).
