DIY Monster Speakers Scare and Charm

OUr favourite DIY site Instructables held what they called the Art of Sound contest, where participants are being asked to create a project that "creates something beautiful with or around sound". Contestants will be eligible to win an assortment of prizes, including a set of racing stripe upholstered hi-fi Focal speakers paired with a 12" Zalyton subwoofer with built-in 100 watt amplifier that features a sound dampening truck bed liner paint job and waterjet-cut steel flames and a Thingamakit from Bleep Labs. But our favourite are these pair of of Focal speakers transformed into a Monster's Inc. stand-in...

And if you're not up for entering the Art of Sound Contest and winning a Thingamakit or a pair of monster speakers, you can always get cracking and make your own following...what else...some Instructables how-to instructions. It's admittedly a bit involved, with plenty of wood, foam, glue, fur and speaker parts, making this project sort of a combination of the Jim Henson' Muppets workshop meets Radioshack. But how cute would these be for a kid's room? Come on mom and dad, you know Jr. deserves it...maybe.
