To help kick off our DIY month, we are delighted to share this fun lighting project inspired by a post here on Apartment Therapy. Amy Beth and Alastair are veteran DIYers who have shared some of their projects with us in the past (Hive Pattern Area Rug and Another Orange Door in DC); we hope you enjoy their latest offering.
"We read your site regularly and find it so helpful in renovating our dc rowhouse. You have gotten us through a lot of designing ruts for sure over the past year or so of living here!
We are currently in the beginning stages of designing our daughter Ava's nursery. She is due in the beginning of March so we have most of the furniture and decor in boxes still but decided to start with lighting to try and get ourselves going. I had saved a post of yours as well as another post from designspongeonline.com for inspiration and wanted to share our results. 400 ivory felt circles were used for the fluffy meringue like pendant for Ava's room and we couldnt be happier with it. The nursery will be a mixture of textures in ivory and grey when it is finished but this first step has really inspired us and cost a total of 45 dollars including the Melodia pendant lamp.
75 stiff white felt circles went into the ceiling fixture globe light and we liked it so much we did two; one at the foot and one at the top of our stairs. We simply used the fixtures already in the house.
Thanks so much for this very affordable inspiration! We did most of this while snowed in this holiday and truly enjoyed ourselves catching up on old shows/cutting endless circles. We hope you like the results as much as we do! I have attached pics both lit and unlit with close ups so you can take a look. I think our next step is to add dimmers to )
Many thanks and Happy New Year!"
Thank you Amy Beth and Alastair for sharing another successful project with us- we're sure little Ava will love her unique light fixture when she's old enough to appreciate it!
