This project is a particularly juicy one, courtesy of Emma Reddington from the Marion House Book. It's perfect for extra baskets you have kicking around, or a quick thrift store makeover. With just painter's tape and paint, you can transform old baskets into stylish storage or decoration.

Its a nice project but my local fair trade stores always have great African baskets and I always regret not having a reason to buy one, so if I needed one I would feel really bad about trying to imitate a traditional African basket instead of buying the real deal and supporting the craftmen and women who keep this tradition alive and support their families!
It's a cool idea but I agree with FULINLIN. However, dip dyed baskets look awesome to me and something I would totally do.
I appreciate and respect what FULINLIN says. But if you already have some crummy old baskets and dribbles of leftover paint sitting around, I think it's fine to paint them any way you like and make use of what you have on hand. I'd probably go for something less African-style and more scandinavian -- a wide stripe in a cool color, for example.
