Last weekend we had a family of guests over and when the parents weren't looking (i.e. their turn for date night) we crafted up these little gift boxes for the tree. The kids had a lot of fun decorating them and their parents will have a little surprise on Christmas morning.
Besides some sweet treats and a little confetti, inside the homemade boxes are special notes written to the parents by the kids. We found the tutorial for making the boxes on Etsy's blog here. Be sure to grab the necessary template too.
As you can see, they decorated them in ways that could work for all kinds of holidays, including birthdays. For ours, which were intended for the tree, I supplied the kids with shiny, white and blue scraps for glueing, some mini pompoms, sparkles, and snowflake stickers we found at the dollar store. Hot glue came in handy for the pipe cleaner hanger.
Idea: make some extras to hand out over the holidays to those people who make your life easier over the course of the year: your postal worker, the school bus driver, your apartment manager, your kid's piano teacher etc.
