We got an email over the weekend sharing a bold creative solution to the problem of a big boxy white fridge. Due to the layout in her home, Titti's refrigerator sits in the corner of the adjacent dining room - making the utilitarian appliance seem extra big and bland. To remedy it, she choose a favorite pattern, matte black contact paper…
… and got busy.
Shown above, left to right:
1. The end result - unique, decorative and totally personalized.
2. The pattern inspiration - a Pottery Barn rug.
3. The template.
4. The cutting process - Titti says she cut out "about a billion" of them.
5. The mid-way point of the job.
Check out all the info on the project along with lots of pictures at: Shoestring Pavilion
Thanks Titti!

White Enamel Flatwa...
Love. This is going in my bookmarks! Thanks for sharing!
… and got busy.
Busy is right. I might have liked it if they had only covered the side of the fridge (as in the last photo of the project's progress).
this only really works with small fridges that dont have handles
This reminds me of a late great aunt of mine who went a little bonkers with marble Contact paper. Her entire home ended up marble - the toilet seat, the telephone, the kitchen cabinets, the refrigerator, the mailbox - if it was a hard surfance it ended up covered in Contact paper. My dad referred to her as Michaelangelo. She was hell on wheels with an Exacto knife - bless her heart.
Now, THATS a refrigerator covered in contac paper!
BRAVO! wonderful!
Hmm, I agree, it looked nice when just the side was covered. This is a neat concept under the circumstances, but I think it would look more finished/less awkward if the door handles were painted black. Right now their dated beige color stands out and leaves a sort of dingy impression, and makes the statement "I am an ugly old fridge covered in contact paper" rather than "I am a funky fridge with a neat design." If they were black, I don't think this would be too busy at all.
It's quirky - but I like it.
Is contact paper easily removed?
Refrigerators last a long time. What if you wanted to change the design of your kitchen?
Otherwise, it is an interesting idea. Not quite my design aesthetic, but I think this is very creative.
does anyone else have a refrigerator that sweats in the summer? would this even work during hot and humid months?
This is a great idea if you're a renter, or have an ugly but functional fridge and don't want to be wasteful. There are also lots of great sites with decorative contact papers that come in an array of colors and patterns.

I'd be interested in seeing how the rest of the kitchen looks, because this fridge out of context is very attractive, but a bit daunting.
A Curtis-worthy project.
Refrigerators sweat?!? I've never had that problem...
I think this is a cute idea. I kinda want to cover the black sides of my stainless steel fridge now.
I think it's really cool. Great job!
Though I do agree that painting the handle would help, but is not entirely necessary.
Ohhh..... I would not have done that!
Not a fan of the handles... they don't seem to mesh with the update.
very cool!
Sweaty fridges are often a sign of troubles, including bad insulation or failing gaskets. Many fridges also come with a switch that turns a feature on and off that helps prevent outside condensation in extremely humid areas - if your fridge is drippy you may want to pull out your manual (or download it from online) and see if you have that option.
I think it looks awesome but agree it would look better with black handles. If it's a rental you can't change, maybe just a long black strip of contact paper would work?
I think Titti should be applauded for being inventive & self-reliant in coming up with an inexpensive solution.
S/he gets to see if it feels good & meets his/her goals, or if s/he wants to tweak it or change it... but attempting & going through with this project, I am sure, is very satisfying & is a good example for us.
I think it's great--and a brilliant solution for having a fridge in an awkward place. Now it looks more like a middle eastern wardrobe--or a big gift!
My, what patience you have to space the pieces so evenly.
I don't necessarily love the look of this in any other space, but seriously, it's so much better than having a huge white refrigerator jutting out into an odd space and looking like a refrigerator. Also, the execution was perfect! Great job!
I love it! It's a modern take on the old Westinghouse "Match Your Mood" fridges produced in 1968.
It's a really a shame that home appliances are so dull now. I really wish more companies would wise up and offer more color options, patterns, etc. instead of the boring standard white, black, off-white and stainless steel looks that have now become standard. At least washer & dryers are starting to get more colorful again but you have to pay a lot of money if you want to own a colorful fridge or oven now. Before the '80s, there were so many more color options and styles available for home appliances.
FANTASTIC!!!!!!
I say paint the handles if you can.
Whatever floats your boat but I think I'll file this in the drawer with all the other projects involving contact paper and what not to do.
I had this exact same fridge. (had to trade for my son's older, smaller one when I moved into my tiny cottage) My late husband and I had bought it new, and the handles were white. Because he had a job where he got covered with a fine mist of oil everyday, the handles ended up looking like the one in the pic. I tried every cleaner I could lay my hands on, then just gave up.
As for the project, Titti, you rock!!! It looks really nice, and you must have the patience of a saint to cut and line up all those shapes.
The more I look at it, the harder it becomes to decide if I really like it, or just like the fact that someone took what they saw as a problem and fixed it in a way that pleases them. And that's the entire point - that Titti's happy with it. I'm sure I have things in my house that a lot of people would roll their eyes over and wonder, "What WAS that girl thinking??" But hey, I'M happy, and that's all that counts in my little world. When I become unhappy, I'll change them. Maybe even cover them with contact paper. (Used to do that to lidded paper ream boxes so my off-season clothing storage would be pretty)
Is that safe? Fridges give off a lot of heat.
