A DIY shelf with the low-cost of IKEA, but without the pressed board and pictogram instructions! These are used in a bathroom to extend a rustic look in an existing attached bedroom, but they could be really a nice touch to soften an industrial loft with some wooden accents, add to a nautical theme or even to liven up a kid's room.
This great tutorial comes to use from The CSI Project ("Create Something Inspired") and their guest blogger, Jessie from Imperfectly Polished. Jessie was inspired to create some extra storage space in her master bathroom because of the wood-striped accent wall she and her husband created in their bedroom. Jessie even used leftover material from that wall project to create these shelves.

Ercol Bar Stool
nice! very original.
When I was in college (when the earth was still cooling), my freshman roommate's brother showed us how to make these, though we used just rope and no brackets. Two loops of rope, one around either end of a board, fastened at the top of the loop to the wall. It was surprisingly sturdy—it held books and plants.
