Katy of Mom and Her Drill recently created this rustic wall out of salvaged wood pallets. The end result is a beautiful, unique wall that has greatly transformed her space. Lucky for us, this is a fairly easy DIY!

Katy recommends visiting local pallet companies. They will most likely have hundreds of pallets available for your taking. The pallets are usually free making this an incredibly cheap DIY. You must separate the wood planks from the pallets and nail or glue each plank onto the wall. There may be some simple wood cutting in order for the planks to match up on your specific wall. Also, sanding may be necessary depending on the aesthetic you want.
Katy gives plenty of detailed information on her post Wall Reveal.

I saw something similar on Renovation Nation I think a year ago. It was really cool looking then and looks even better in this space. I plan on doing this when I get a home to play around with!
I was looking for an cool way to cover my sheet rock wall with wood so that I could hang my tv. This looks like just the ticket.
I actually did something similar to it awhile ago. But I mounted on vertical support beams to minimize the number of holes i put in the dry wall. But nevertheless, great job on the project!
@ GIT: I would still suggest you install the tv mount to the studs behind your sheet rock wall. The wooden panels would not support the weight of a TV.
This wall looks so nice and welcoming. I've recently posted further ideas for recycling pallets. You are welcome to check them out at http://dondehogar.blogspot.com/2011/02/el-uso-de-pallets-en-muebles-y.html *** and http://dondehogar.blogspot.com/2011/01/ideas-para-reciclar-pallets.html
you could mount a lot of staghorns on that wall
Nice! Instant focal point in the room.
GIT - I think I'd want to make sure that the tv mount is attached directly to a wall stud, not just to the surface wood.
Beautiful!
I am sooo not into rustic - but this.is.beautiful!
How about on the ceiling!? Between support beams perhaps. Love the cost effectiveness of this.
Does anyone know what kind of wood these pallets are made out of? Are they substantial enough to refinish and use on the floor?
pallets are impregnated with all kinds of nasty chemicals, so while I like this idea, I'm pretty sure the potential toxic factor is a deal breaker.
alexis - they are made from pineboard, probably not good for flooring.
I second splatgirl - aren't they super toxic? Before I found out about that, I hunted for pallets to no avail. Now that I'm afraid of using them, I see them everywhere.
i did something KINDA like this:

Katie Bower of Bower Power did this a while back for a wall in her new son's nursery... it was especially attractive in there... adding a rough/masculine quality without being overbearing in something so delicate as a nursery.
Very nice!
Love the wall and what an inspiration this lady is.
Thanks for such a nice post, and to answer the "toxic" comments:
I work in a factory that uses these, but there is also a pallet company nearby that makes them. I haven't used pallets from China, because I have a source right here that makes them and throws the used ones away. I don't see them spraying any chemicals on anything.
Katie Bower did this, too.

you are incredibly talented and such an inspiration for me! The wall is stunning! Also, i did read about pallets and chemicals. just to be safe maybe you could have some of your pallets tested for chemicals? I wouldn't want your family to be exposed to anything that could be a carcinogen :/
