Would you believe that this beautiful hand-painted bathroom floor started off as unfinished plywood subfloor? Now, it's a graphic black-(actually very chocolate-y dark brown)-and-white painted rug that perfectly compliments the rest of the room:
Spotted at The DIY Showoff, there's even a tutorial on how to do something similar yourself.
Starting from an unfinished plywood subfloor in an old farmhouse, there was much sanding to provide a smoother surface. The floor was painted in a gorgeous dark brown porch paint (Valspar Porch and Floor paint in "Journey"), then the "rug" was laid out in a contrasting white. A border was taped off and painted, then the pattern was stenciled on for the finishing touch. To see it all, including more before and after shots, head on over to the The DIY Showoff.

Brilliant!
Pretty damn cute!
It's lovely AND it coordinated with the adorable wiener dog oh so well!
Absolutely beautiful! I love when someone chooses a non-traditional approach to design - in this case starting with a simple material like a plywood base rather than going to the store and purchasing tiles.
Does anyone know what brand and color are on the walls? It's exactly the shade I'm looking for.
Beautiful! Great idea to use porch paint, too.
Awesome! It actually makes me wish I had a plywood floor I could paint, and that's saying something! I love how you got creative and created a gorgeous look out of something as lowly as a plywood floor.
dachshund love!
WOW! What a great job! I have been wanting to stencil my potting room floor, but it will never look THIS cool! Nice. :)
Very impressive, just beautiful.
I dont think I would have the patience for such an elaborate pattern.
So..., how does one wash the floor? It looks beautiful but I can see the dust and hair, so prevalent in our bathrooms, making this choice a not so sensible one.
This is a wonderful fix for inexpensive update and I am seriously considering this for my bedroom and office.
brubeck3, porch paint is quite durable. I'm sure it could withstand a light mopping now and again.
thats beautiful, i love the wall stripes too!
Great wall stripes! I'll definitely keep this as an inspiration photo for when I discover the shape my bathroom floor is in under the ugly sheet vinyl.
Gamosa- I loved the colors for the wall stripes too so I looked through her blog and found it, Benjamin Moore Light Pewter for the base color and Benjamin Moore Nimbus for the stripe. Here's the post she did on painting her walls

Way to see potential where I would have just seen an unfinished floor! It's gorgeous.
brubeck3 - her blog says she has 3 coats of sealer on top of the paint.
wow I love this!! A porch would be a great idea!
Thanks for your sweet comments everyone and thanks A.T. (RY) for the sharing my project with your readers. I'm honored! Who cares that Phil saw his shadow today - I'm smiling now! :)
WOW.
Really beautiful.
Roeshel- The stripes on the wall are great. What paint colors did you use?
StudioStarter - sorry! If you're still wondering and didn't see it mentioned above or in my blog post, colors are BM Light Pewter and BM Nimbus. :)
Thanks again everyone!
