We came across this super simple DIY idea for a silver tray chalkboard. While the implementation of this idea is pretty quick and easy, the idea is golden! Well, silver, anyhow.
Virginia, writer of Blackflipflops, took inexpensive silver plastic trays from the dollar store, added some chalkboard paint and embellishments, and ended up with an adorable note board that we love. This could be a gorgeous project to do with actual metal trays, as well---we constantly see them in thrift stores about town.
Virginia has added floral ornamentation (made out of pages from a book!) and wooden letters spelling "Notes." This is where you can get creative, or keep it simple, as we might be inclined to do. Either way, this is a DIY project that we just might actually do on our next day off!

Why not use silver trays. Most of us don't use them that much anyway. Put them to good use. I can use that idea in other ways. I love it.
Part of it's charm is the unique and ARTISTIC way she executed it's messiness. Much like a fingerprint denotes each individual person, I find her execution quite lovely and appropriate for her style.
And how is it hokey? The ones I see in department stores are hokey and they all look the same. This one is completely different.
I think it's brilliant and beautiful and I'd love to have one in my house.
first to the commenter that said this was "hokey"...i would really be interested in seeing your work? because after all i am quite certain you have hokey things..To say such nasty things about someone else's work who was featured on such an amazing site such as this one just shows you obviously have no class. That hit a huge nerve with me if you can't tell.
I for one do not think it is hokey...i love the fact that the paint is the way it is...it gave it an old but more modern feeling just like I am sure Virginia was going for.

this project is so super cute!! i love the shabbiness of it! Virginia can rock a silver tray like nobody's business!! I think it's great to see something so plain (the tray itself) all jazzed up. I want to make those flowers right now! adorable!
i completely disagree with some of the negative comments- i love this gorgeous shabby-chic tray! i think recycling real vintage silver trays is an awesome idea too! i adore the paper flowers & that it is a one of a kind, original piece. Her work is soulful and lovely and i'm very inspired! thanks AT for posting this project!
