Although little, kids certainly add to the amount of stuff around the house. There are ride-on toys and bikes, baby gear saved for the next one, baby pools, sand toys, and winter sleds. Instead of trying to store everything in a closet, look up for extra storage space.
We found this DIY sliding storage system that is mounted on the ceiling. No floor space required! It's a great way to store bulky and out of season items in an organized way. This project cost about $100 to complete and the result looks nice and neat. For excellent step-by-step directions, check out The Family Handyman website.

Nomade Express Slee...
I can't believe it. I was JUST trying to figure out how to do this. Thanks for posting!! This will be such a great place to store our Christmas decorations and other items that we only need once in a while.
I've seen this repinned on Pinterest over and over again, but will it actually work? I mean, I can see how it'd stay up, but will those plastic lips weaken? How realistic or easy will it be to remove heavy boxes? Sure this would be easy for empty or near empty boxes.
Anyone think it actually would work out?
I agree with coley223. I have seen this a million times on Pinterest and although it looks cool and is certainly creative, I have broken the lips off of several similar bins just by carrying them by the lip when they are full.
I am envisioning horrible injuries caused by a heavy bin falling on my head in the garage.
Cool idea, but it worries me.
I agree with the previous posts - especially this picture with the pretty woman sliding the box in effortessly - those large boxes get heavy. The only effective storage system I have seen was in a for sale house we saw a few years back? the guy had created a platform that was on a pulley system right on that dead space above the garage door. To lower it you would pull it down with ropes while you are at the side (quite safe) and you look a the boxes without having to lift a thing, take what you need and then pull the pulley up again. Extremely safe...
They do make very heavy duty storage bins that are much stronger than the types bought for $3 in red and green at Xmas time. Additionally, you could cut down the weight by storing bulky but lighter things ---- a comforter in the summertime?
looks like an awesome home for bats or squirrels or mice or....
Great idea for lightweight storage. OK probably not for books but ornaments etc.
