When I turned my former roommate's bedroom into my home office, I knew I wanted a standing desk. But which kind? Most that are for retail sale are on the pricey side and many of the DIY versions look very handmade with their stacks of boxes or reams of paper to prop up monitors and peripherals. Then, I had an idea...
Ikea's Norbo wall-mounted table seemed the perfect size for my laptop and Wacom tablet. Mounting the monitor on the wall would save additional space on the tabletop, as well as allowing the table to be folded down and create a little extra space when guests are using the room.
All I had to do was measure and find the correct height for the desk, and use the proper anchors to secure the desk to wall studs. Once I had everything measured, I lightly sanded the finish and painted the table black to match the wall, which is covered in Graham and Brown's Dixie wallpaper.
I ended up adding a stool because, well, sometimes I'm lazy. But I made sure it was an uncomfortable stool so I don't stay seated too long!

Bravo! Your solution is very innovative and has me thinking about my about my future standing desk in my extra bedroom/office. I think better standing up. Once I told someone that my brain stops with I sit down. :0) It’s better for my back too.
After the last remodel where I work, I noticed that a couple of people had desks that convert from standard height to standing height. I had no idea it was an option or I would have selected it too.
This is awesome!! I want to do it too!!
good idea. too bad there are wires everywhere...
also, i know that stool is extremely uncomfortable. had one for my drafting table for a week before i put it outside on the sidewalk.
Just out of curiosity, where did you get your monitor mount? I want to do this EXACT same idea in my place.
They used to sell that in black-brown... I missed out. :(
@RSMEQ - yes, the wires bother me, too. eventually, i'll figure some way to deal with them.
@SEMCHI - i bought the mount from monoprice for around $30 http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=109&cp_id=10828
Love the Norbo (and the Norberg which we have as our kitchen table). Great idea!
Wire monkey! But I love this idea. Especially if you really do fold it away when it's not in use. What a great way to keep your surfaces clean and out of the way.
I love that you have the sofa on the opposite wall facing since currently my TV is my computer monitor and when I move later this month, this will be a great reason to rid myself of my clutter-producing desk.
Where did you buy the sofa?
That turned out so well! Kudos.
Where did you buy your stool, please?
