Allison and Ben's lovely restored 1890s building in downtown Manhattan is filled with modern and found objects, and exudes a laid-back style that's reinforced by clean white walls and cool colors throughout. Check out these three projects that help you get the look of their layered space...

1. At Home on the Bay has a free printable botanical chart, or you can find your own image and print it on fabric before hanging. Pepper Design has a tutorial for you.

2. Many of our readers aren't thrilled with the idea of a real cowhide rug. If you have objections to the real thing, or if you want to make your own, then check out this project from Homecoming.

3. You can create a fabric-covered tray from scratch with a little cardboard as a base, a seen on All Put Together. Make it as big or as little as you like, and customize the pattern.
