Window boxes are great for adding plant life in small spaces. But what if your planter is DOA (dull on arrival)? Here's a project from Kate over at Centsational Girl where she creates a custom look for her standard issue window box, in under 2 hours.

A plain planter becomes a pretty piece in the capable hands of Kate from Centsational Girl. A bag of wood shims, some leftover paint or paint samples, and a couple hours are all you need to make the transformation.
You can always count on Kate for a great tutorial. Not only is this project cute and customizable, but I love her suggestion to adhere the shims with wood glue for staying power, but add a few dots of hot glue so that you can work quicker without all the drying time.

I love Kate's blog! I voted for her blog in "the Homies" blog contest. This is a great project.
If this window box is anything to go by, I'd be silly not to check out her blog myself! Can I ask though, what are "shims" exactly?
Hey AcrossthePond, shims are used to stabilized cabinets and countertops when floors or walls are uneven, they're tapered to allow installers to make minor adjustments so surfaces are level or to fill gaps too - they're found in the lumber department at home improvement stores. And thanks so much ElaneB!!

@acrossthepond, they're thin strips of wood, ideal for filling small gaps in construction projects or leveling a table, cabinet, et cetera, or crafting. You can buy them by the bag at home improvement or craft stores.
Wow, thanks for the info'. Is that where the expression "shimmy up to" comes from I wonder? Anyway, I'm not sure that we have anything that useful in DIY stores here. I'd have to improvise!
This is a great project.i love this
