Remember Paul Villinski's Beer Can Butterflies? Some of you were over the whole butterfly trend, but this wood veneer version might make you reconsider.
Veneer adds a warm wood tone to walls and can be cut into virtually any shape or pattern with scissors or an x-acto knife. Veneer's flexibility also lends itself to some interesting three-dimensional forms. It comes in hundreds of varieties, from the ordinary to the exotic. The butterflies pictured above were made from tree bark found outdoors, but you can obtain specific varieties at hardware stores for less than $40/roll.

cute!
Way better than beer cans
very cute- although you could do anything with this idea- not just butterflies! :)
Saw some like these at Target, some outta plastic, some out of silver-looking plastic, some out of cork, I think... but they were flowers, which you don't organically see popping out of walls... But the butterflies idea I LIKE. I personally like the metal kind tho... but cleaning must be a S.O.B.
I dunno...Can beers "butterfly"? We shall see.
I suspect that sycamore bark which peels off on its own at various times of the year would be good for this project. It also has a wonderful gradient of colours that would make this even more fun.
Maybe it's just the pic, but it makes me think of tortillas that have been cut out and baked, then stuck to the wall.
Over the weekend found this shop that sells veneer swallows. Check out their website :
