I'm a huge terra cotta fan, mainly because I like affordable pots for all my growing needs. They're inexpensive and is a design classic, but they can be a little fragile. Do you know how to store them properly in the off-season?
Martha Stewart tells us to wash, dry and stack these clay pots on their side, interlocking them as you go. At first glance this might look dangerous, but it's not in this case. Small changes in humidity and temperature can cause them to crack, either over the winter months or when you try to pull them apart come spring when they're stacked vertical. Even though winter isn't quite here yet, this is one of those tips to file away so when you're ready.

I usually just stack them. This is good to know.
What I really want to know is how to prepare my larger pots that contain perennials for winter. I often lose a few to cracks, but I figure there has to be a way to store them to prevent this.
why is the name in some countries two words & others one?
