What are your "green" habits and compromises when it comes to kitchen appliances? So many of our appliances these days come with a little computer display of some sort. Super handy when we need them, but these displays also draw a small amount of power in order to stay on and keep the appliance ready to go. It's not much, but it can add up over time.

I keep all the home office equipment on the same surge protector so I can shut everything off at night. And I remember, I try to do the same with the home theater set-up in the living room. I have convinced myself that I'm making a difference!
I went out of town for a month recently. Trying to be "green", I unplugged everything, including my desktop computer and internet router.
When I got back home, my internet connection had stopped working, which also meant my VOIP phone wouldn't work. It took two days to get Comcast out to fix everything. The repairman told me not to disconnect the internet again.
Adding insult to injury - my electric bill was exactly the same - didn't save a dime.
