With Mother's day behind us and Father's day a few short hours away, we're curious to know how many of you picked up your desire to be green and friendly to the earth from your parents? Did you grow up composting or recycling what you could? Keeping an eye on energy or is it all new for you?

In our home, Dad was the energy watch dog and Mom was the repurposer. Most of the things my family put to use were things other homes were tossing in the trash. I remember making all sorts of projects from random things and thinking how cool it was that my parents were like MacGyver.

We grew most of our food and saved cans and bottles to use in other projects or for recycling. My parents could make something from nothing and it created a great since of fulfillment in my life, even at a young age.

What was it like to grow up in your house? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
