Love the look of vintage luggage speakers, but don't like the $800-$5000 price tag? Cut a few zeroes off the cost by using an old suitcase and convert it yourself into an easy to carry handled speaker for outdoor iPod entertaining like the one above!

Fallon Keplinger of online eco-mag Luri & Wilma did just that, with less than $50 of mostly reclaimed items from Craigslist, Goodwill and Amazon.

It all starts with removing an old pair of speakers from their casing. Then, using the casing, trace and cut holes through the side of a vintage suitcase or other bit of luggage.

The toughest part is connecting the speaker wires to an amp, but these speaker tutorials from PC World and Dummies should pick up where the tutorial on Luri & Wilma leaves off. It's also possible to re-work a complete iPod speaker system into a piece of luggage for vintage picnic tunes.
