Dominic's Down-to-the-Wire Redesign

My Room

Name: Dominic
Location: Davidson, North Carolina

At our 24-week appointment, our doctor said we were having a girl. We decided to move our older daughter into a spare bedroom and leave the nursery intact for our second child. However, I always had a feeling I was carrying a boy so, late in the third trimester, I convinced my husband to get a second ultrasound. And good thing we did — we discovered our she was a he! I only had a few weeks before our baby was due so I needed to get to work redesigning the nursery quickly!

By this time, I was very pregnant, swollen, and wanted nothing to do with going outside in the hot and humid South. So I decided to recreate the great outdoors in our air-conditioned nursery.

I repurposed my daughter's Pottery Barn flower mobile by using a Cricut machine to cut about two or three hundred 2.5" circles (I lost count). Then I punched a hole in the center of the circles and slipped them over the flowers (each flower has a bead in the center which fit through my holes just perfectly).

I took an old lamp from my college days and tied some ribbon around it to bring the mobile's vibrant colors to the other side of the room. Outdoor lanterns were hung from the ceiling using rope. I found some vintage-style knobs with trees on them for the dresser, as well as a tree stump to put next to our old glider. I purchased some baby-safe frames from Land of Nod and used some pages from a book about bugs for my artwork. A tree mural, some sky blue curtains, and grass in the form of a green shag rug from IKEA completed the look without being too theme-y.

I splurged on two things: the bedding is from Dwell Studio and the faux-deer wall mounting is from Etsy.

Thanks, Carissa!
