- What I Love About My Small Home:
- We can move it to wherever we fancy going (as long as there's a waterway!) and almost all items within the space are multifunctional. My favourite feature is the granite grey rubber floor as its extremely functional and also beautiful, plus the surface heats up when the sun shines onto it which is fantastic in winter months.
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- Ensuring that the space doesn't feel cramped even though it's tiny by using materials that are light and reflective with smooth surfaces and creating hidden and integrated storage facilities with sliding doors to allow ease of movement from one area to the next.

Adorable wood stove! Living on a boat seams very romantic.
cute, but just one room? I doubt she sleeps in the kitchen.
Wish there were a way to enlarge the floor plan so I could actually read it! :)
only pictures of the kitchen?
where are the bedroom and bathroom areas? This is a small cool kitchen, but this is insufficient as a "home" without further detail on living areas. I do love the light, bright airiness they managed to achieve while seeming to be a fully functioning kitchen and dining space.
All the photos are from the same perspective... no sense of space.
I'm sure I would love to live there...but where do you sit down and relax?
OMG - I have dreamt of living on a narrow boat since childhood. I love this one.
I always love the thought of a houseboat-- I want to see the rest of it!
I would have liked a picture of the sleeping area and possibly the bathroom. I, too, can't really see the image of the floorplan. However, the very idea of a houseboat is precisely in line with what this contest is about!
OMG - you realized my childhood dream! I'd love to live on a houseboat. I love the canal too with those pretty houses in the background.
Would love to see more of it and the outdoor space (if there is any). Do you actually move around a lot?
This would be the one I would vote for if there were more photos! Can the posting be amended with more information/photos?
These are questions that I'm sure the staff at AT should have seen coming, and with that should have replied to the contestant requesting more or alternative pictures. I feel like our time is being wasted when we have to ask those questions.
Sure the kitchen looks great, and I envy the fact that you can live anywhere, as long as there is a waterway, but where do you sleep? Where do you chillout? Where do you entertain. C'mon now!
This is how I interpreted the floor plan: a bathroom is on the left - there's a blue toilet, and on the opposite side of "a person walking" is a shower and sink. Then there are two closets, a kitchen, and, on the far right, something that looks like a bed (wish I colud see a photo of that area).
To me, this is both small and cool. Got my vote :)!
I've seen this on the blog below. She sleeps on the sofa you can see which converts into a bed and the bathroom is at the back. Looks perfect to me! If you follow the link below, she also has her own blog with more details:

your time is being wasted? lol
cool entry but wish we could see more of the space than the kitchen and the floor plan.
Thanks for posting that link, Ruthtooth! This boat is fantastic. Does she live on it alone? It's really cool, but I don't think I could sleep alone, floating on the water like that. Scary!
Hi everyone
Thanks for all your comments.
Regarding the bathroom, as it's such a tiny space it's extremely difficult to take coherent photos, however I do have some more pictures on my blog, including us having been featured on a BBC programme in the uk. If you copy and paste the following links:

I live aboard my boat with my boyfriend and we spend a lot of time in the summer in the front and back areas of the boat, and in the winter the sideboards have flip-up worktops which turn into dining areas for the both of us.
I hope you enjoy viewing my little home in a bit more detail :)
Dominique
thanks for posting links to more photos! i love your houseboat!
Wonderful! Also a long-time dream of mine...!
Wow! I like it. I've sometimes thought about living on a boat, but the thought of rats and damp put me off. But yours looks so lovely inside I can't imagine you have either problem! By the way, is this Leyton, east London? The outdoor photo looks like Bath or something...
Whoa! Check out the before and after at Kent Griswold's blog (<--the second picture, I'm unable to provide a direct link) to see what a mess Dominique had to start with renovating this boat and realize what an outstanding job she did.
Dominique, is it noisy living along the K&A towpath? I'd imagine cyclists and walkers can be boisterous at times, especially making their way home from the pubs. ;-)
A houseboat, HOORAY! I am absolutely fascinated by houseboats.
Having stayed on this boat on numerous occasions it really is as cool as it seems. I love the gentle sound of water all around you when you are dropping off to sleep. The shower and loo work well at the far end of the boat and it is always cozy, even in temperatures below freezing. The bed area becomes the sofa during the day but it is so easy to pull out the extra leaf for sleeping.
Absolutely brilliant
I love this boat!
I wish I lived on a boat
Ideal get up and go living, creatively designed and well thought through to provide all the comforts of home plus versatility. Love it!
Fabulous design from a very talented lady!
Looks great - certainly have to be neat & tidy - maybe more of us should thing about house boat living !!!
I love the sense of space you've been able to create here. My husband and I are in the middle of building our wide beam narrow boat, so you know - the same shape as yours, but wider and probably longer. We're in Ireland and for sure there's not as much design variety in liveaboards here as can be found on the continent and in the UK so it's great to see good ideas for design. Thanks for sharing!
Amazing and awesome!!! One of my favorite entries ever!
I've been luckily enough to a good seeing around this boat. WILLIAM and Dom have done a marvellous job and amazing hosts!
Would love to feature your place on my blog. Graduating from London College of Fashion next month and will be using the blog as a folio of my work. Contact me if you're interested: jademelissathomson@hotmail.com
