Over the weekend, we finally got a chance to sit down with Domino's new book, the aptly titled Domino: The Book Of Decorating, due out October 14th. Our thoughts and more photos after the jump!...
A little bit coffee table book, a little bit how-to guide, the tome is essentially a "best of" Domino since it's inception. Organized by room, the book takes you step-by-step through each area of the home, including often neglected spaces like the Entry Way, each filled with great photos and tips.
One of our favorite chapters, called "Getting Started", covers everything from culling inspiration to "naming your style" and creating a decorating schedule. It also includes a great section on floor plans that includes three different layouts for the same room, each with a different purpose.
There's also an appendix, called "The Decorator's Handbook" that offers great tips and resources for those in the market, including how to purchase To The Trade products without hiring a decorator.
Overall, the book is a perfect distillation of what Domino is all about - reasonable, DIY solutions that personalize one's home. And! As an added bonus, purchase of the book includes a free year-long subscription to the magazine.

Looks like all the photos in the book are from back issues. If you already have all the back issues you want, then skip this.
I was hoping this would be more new pictures rather that previously used pictures for old issues. Hmmmmm. I was looking forward to getting this but now I dont know.
I had a good look through it today. Its a nice book but as a subscriber to Domino I had seen almost all the images before.
I'm a confessed domino junkie so I pre-ordered it on Amazon.com. My copy arrived Saturday - and while it is A LOT of repeat photos - I still love it. There are a few great new photos..thou I sort of expect they'll end up in future issues.
I think I paid like $26 (with shipping), the cover price is $32...and it includes a free one year renewel...so for just 16 bucks, I'm thrilled with it.
I didn't start reading Domino until about a year after it started, so this is going on my Amazon.com wish list.

Nice gig... Domino and its core editors getting royalties for recycled images of (mostly) other designers work.
Have always been a huge fan of Dara Caponigro's, though, and she IS a huge driver of the look of the magazine.
But as far as "what Domino is all about - reasonable, DIY solutions that personalize one's home."... hmmm. Somehow, with their signature casual-scriptiness, they've convinced a lot of people that they are an accessible low-end, even though, notsomuch.
was sooo looking forward to this book. pre-ordered it, blah, blah....was looking for major excitement and newness, so not there. do we really need to see the editors homes and children self promoting themselves in their book. what is so great about them in the first place to be in the book?? there are so many interesting and creative people out there with great interiors. it is time they did some foot work and got out there and put some newness in the mag. they should have done it for the book!! you don't need the book if you already have the back issues!!! we all know how to paint a wall.
